My Thoughts On NOS4A2
Before The June 2019 Premiere

Vampires. Vintage cars. A girl with the uncanny ability to find things.
AMC’s upcoming series NOS4A2 takes the vampires you know— the clammy, pale, blood sucking monsters—  and turns them on their decidedly undead heads.

Adapted from Joe Hill’s 2013 horror novel of the same name, NOS4A2’s vampires don’t have a craving for blood. Instead, they hunger for the life force of their victims and greedily drain it, leaving them piranha teethed inhuman creatures.

Sign. Me. Up.

NOS4AT2’s supernatural soul sucker is played by none other than Zachary Quinto (Star Trek, American Horror Story). Aged up in cadaverous prosthetics and makeup Quinto is Charlie Manx, the vampy child predator who snatches kiddos with promises of taking them to Christmasland-- Manx’s demented winter unwonderland in another dimension. Can we get a ho ho, oh no, up in here?
Me getting in the ho ho horror spirit with Joe Hill and one of Manx's victims. Photo belongs to me.

In comes Victoria “Vic” McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries), a woman with the preternatural ability to find lost things. Vic’s other claim to fame? She’s the only child to flee from Charlie Manx and live to tell the tale. Recruited by a purple-haired, punk-rock librarian (newcomer Maggie Leigh) to retrieve the stolen children Vic discovers the impossible. Driving her beloved vintage motorcycle through her town’s spooky covered wooden bridge transports her to other locations.

Umm, is it time for the NOS4A2 premiere yet? ‘Cuz this horror junkie was ready yesterday.
(When I got up close and personal with Christmasland and Joe Hill at BookCon, see above.)

Before I hurl myself into the abyss of impatiently waiting (and obsessively stalking the Instagrams of the Pet Sematary catactors Leo*, Tonic, and JD) I’m going to rapid fire some NOS4A2 fun facts attcha’

  • Confused about the title? NOS4A2 is a license plate that refers to the film Nosferatu.
  • Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror the 1922 German black and white horror film was originally meant to be an adaptation of Dracula
  • But Bram Stoker’s estate gave it a hard N-O.
  • Thus, the unauthorized Count Dracula became Count Orlok, and the vampire became a nosferatu!
  • One of the horror classic’s most lasting legacies is how it forever changed vampire canon. Nosferatu made sunlight lethal to vampires. Prior to the film going out in the sun just weakened vamps.

I don’t know about you, but at 10 tonight you’ll find me camped out by my tv, eyes glued to NOS4AT2 and its Rolls-Royce driving supernatural killer. As the girls of Spirits podcast would say, it’s kinda creepy, kinda cool, and I’m. So. Ready.

*My heart hurts to even write this-- Leo recently passed away. He’ll forever be loved as he makes his new home across the rainbow bridge.
